The proposed fieldhouse meets City of Calgary priorities in these significant areas:

PUBLIC DEMAND
A multisport fieldhouse will improve the quality of life for the city's more than 300,000 sports and recreation enthusiasts, including seniors and people with disabilities. It will:

• be fully accessible to all
• be open year round
• address the needs of a variety of sports groups, and
• address the demands and changing trends in sport delivery that current facilities simply cannot 

INCREASING PROGRAM NEEDS
The fieldhouse will allow for more programs for seniors, families, school groups and citizens with disabilities. It will provide additional space for a wide variety of community sport and recreation programs.

In addition, it will attract national and international events and competitions, allowing our local athletes a chance to compete on their home ground.

CONTRIBUTING TO CALGARY'S SOCIAL WELL-BEING
Sport and recreation are viewed positively force by the vast majority of Canadians. We believe that:

• community-based sport reinforces social values such as honesty, fairness, respect, inclusion excellence and fun
• Canadian youth (12 to 19 years of age) are not active enough for optimal growth and development (Statistics Canada, 2002) 

CONTRIBUTING TO CALGARY'S ECONOMIC WELL-BEING
It is estimated that the fieldhouse will bring millions of dollars in sport tourism revenue to Calgary by attracting national and international events that previously could not be hosted in our city.

CONTRIBUTING TO CALGARY'S ENVIRONMENTAL WELL-BEING
The fieldhouse will be located at a site accessible to public transportation. This will both increase access to the facility and reduce the need for space dedicated to parking.

As a new building, it will be able to take advantage of the lastest energy-saving technolgies.
