The aim of the CMFS is to build a facility that is accessible to all. Besides being a first-rate sport and recreation complex, it would be able to offer programs for rehabilitation and active living for all users.
For sport and recreation, the facility would include:

The infield of a 400m track will accommodate 9 tennis courts with 4 badminton courts in the "Ds".
It is also large enough for a full international size soccer pitch.
In addition, the facility would provide space for:
A curtaining system would allow the infield to be fully enclosed and to divide the infield into sections so that several sports and activities could go on simultaneously.

With the construction of a fieldhouse, Calgary could bid to host numerous provincial, national and world championships in a number of sports and events, including:
North of the 49th parallel there are currently two 400m indoor tracks enclosed in fieldhouses -- the Dome Louis Riel in Ottawa and The Dome in Anchorage, Alaska.
DOME LOUIS RIEL
The Louis Riel Dome is Canada's first indoor 400m track.

Its construction was a joint project by the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club and the CEPEO. Built to cover the school's existing track, the dome made it possible for Louis-Riel to offer a new sports program to the region's students, in addition to providing extra track and field training facilities to the Ottawa Lions.
The dome contains:
THE DOME
Opened in Anchorage, Alaska in 2008, The Dome houses a 6-lane track with a full-sized turf infield. Besides track and field events, the facility is used for soccer, baseball, softball, football, rugby and lacrosse.
