It was a dark and stormy day. A shot rang out…
...and the first CMFS Corporate Relay Challenge was under way at Foothills Athletic Park!
When the dust had settled after the final heat, four teams were presented with Championship batons.

Mixed Team Winner: Canadian Sport Centre Calgary with anchor Rich Hesketh
Women's Team Winner: ConocoPhillips Cruisers with anchor Carol Huynh
The sky may have been dark and the wind may have been chill to start the races on the afternoon of June 25, but 19 stalwart teams gave it their all for corporate glory and to support the multisport fieldhouse.
Heat One featured Pattison Outdoor Pacers anchored by Chris Roubekas, CBC Running on Empty anchored by Doug Dirks, The Calgary Sun Sprinters anchored by Dave Dormer; Global TV’s Global Domination anchored by Bruce McAllister, Calgary 55 plus All-Stars anchored by Helly Visser and the Fieldhouse All-Sports anchored by Jenny Ciochetti.
Heat Two was a hotly contested race between Calgary Police anchored by Chris Spring, Calgary Fire Turn and Burn anchored by Tim Berrett, Calgary Track Council Trackies anchored by Len Webber, Timex Tigers anchored by Craig Weller, Canada Sports Centre Calgary anchored by Rich Hesketh and the WorleyParsons Prancers anchored by Mike Urquhart.
Heat Three burned up the track with Ricoh Canada’s Radical Racers anchored by Greg Vavra, Enbridge Long Haulers anchored by Ari Taub, ConocoPhillips Cruisers anchored by Carol Huynh, CE Franklin Forerunners anchored by Jessica Zelinka, Calgary Recreation’s Radiant Reckys anchored by Laura Glover, Team Sherritt anchored by Steven Lumbala and Kilowatts Breakers anchored by Andre Chabot.

After the last racer in the last heat had crossed the finish line, all 76 competitors made their way to the VIP tent for wine and munchies and post-race socializing - under blue skies and warm sunshine.
Each runner, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, also took home a swag bag stuffed with edible treats, a City of Calgary ball cap, pens and a Timex watch.
If your company missed out this year, don’t worry. We’re going to do it all again in June 2012 when the Canadian Olympic Track and Field Trials are held.
Plan to be there.
